This is the hardest decision that I have had to make, and it breaks my heart to have to do this. I have held on as long as I can, but it is not fair on either of us. Let me explain.
This is Chibs. He was born on the 19th of July in 2016, so not far from his 7th birthday! When he was just a puppy, I went to talk to a breeder about the breed and whether one would suit my family. This boy climbed onto my lap at 4 weeks old and promptly fell asleep. He chose me, and I was in love on the spot.
He is a beautiful, pure bred male frenchie, desexed and fully vaccinated. Unfortunately, I am extremely allergic to him to the point I break out in hives, and it triggers an asthma attack. I have held on as long as I could because I hate having to decide to re-home him. I simply do not do this. Ever. I have kids who adore him but are simply not spending enough time with him. My reaction to him has worsened. I have tried all the skin treatments, shampoos, conditioners, diets, etc. Nothing has made a difference to my allergies to him.
He is well trained and very obedient. He will sit at an open door and not enter until given permission and will wait to be told he can eat. He also knows how to sit,lay down, and, of course, stay. He walks really well on the leash and loves his walks. He gets so excited when we grab his leash.
He does like the beach, but Frenchies are not very good swimmers, and he is not an exception to the rule. He doesn't mind getting his paws wet, though.
He has such personality and can be cheeky. If he sees you eating, he will lick his lips to say he is hungry despite having just been fed! He loves belly rubs, sleeping on his back, and lying down with the "frog legs" on a cool floor when it is hot.
He gets Christmas presents every year, and we celebrate his birthday. He is very good with kids of all ages. My youngest was 2 when we got him, and he just followed her around, adoringly with those big beautiful eyes. Don't be fooled. He will use those eyes on his lucky new family.
All he wants to do is be with people, and because of my allergies, he is not getting the love he deserves, and I am unable to pat and play with my boy, whom I love dearly. He loves me as well, and he even used to sleep with me until he turned into a snoring machine that would vibrate across the bed. I often woke up with him on my head. I love him and will miss him so deeply.
He loves food a lot, but he also (and this is gross so be prepared), loves eating used tissues. I discovered this once when I was sick and had gone through a box of tissues, fell asleep, and woke to find him in the bin, devouring the tissues. He was made to throw them up, but apparently, he has a thing for them. He will get them whenever he can. It is definitely not from a lack of food either. He is well fed.
He loves to be goofy and silly. He is so playful and such a beautiful boy.
Be prepared. He is not the typical small French Bulldog. He weighs 18kg. He is strong and can still be boisterous. He has delayed reaction guard dog syndrome, so if you want a guard dog, he is probably not for you. DRGDS (a term I made up, not a real thing) means that he is oblivious to the presence of people until he actually sees them. Then he starts barking as if you are not already aware of this person. He has been dead asleep, and one of my kids has just reached out randomly to pat him, and he jumps up like he has been electrocuted and starts barking as well. He will stop and be like "okay give me attention now" while giving you puppy eyes because he feels so bad that he barked at you.
He does have a stumpy tail, but he doesn't wag it at all. His whole rear end wags, and he bounces his entire body. It is the cutest thing ever. Oh, he also does the head tilt, which will melt the coldest heart.
I only want him to go to a wonderful and loving family where he will get everything he deserves. My heart breaks writing this, and I have already shed tears. So if you got this far, maybe he is for you.
